After several catastrophic setbacks in early adulthood, my life was starting to get back on track.
Most would say I was an exceptionally happy guy. I'd achieved the things on life's "stuff you must do in order to say you've made it" list of rules. All the boxes were checked. A wonderful wife, three great children, a sweet dog, lots of loving friends and relatives. I had earned a degree, had a compelling career, and owned a comfortable home in a nice neighborhood.
We were livin’ the dream, baby -- The American Dream! But something was, somehow, just off. The fulfillment I believed I “should have" been experiencing was mysteriously missing.
I was moving smoothly through life, but I wasn’t fully ALIVE.
But then, in 2017, an encounter with a couple of guys known as The Minimalists (who are the age of my kids!) changed everything. Being awakened to extraordinary possibilities of what life on this planet could be led to our rebooted "Desert Simple" lifestyle.
My plan had been to privately hold on to these "secrets" of sustainable contentment -- and just continue to live happily ever after.
In January 2021, my secret life was exposed in "The Minimalists: Less Is Now" film, available to over 200 million Netflix subscribers. Any thoughts of anonymity suddenly vanished. For me this was a classic “Here’s Your Sign” moment. It was time to share my journey with others.
Desert Simple is my story of finally discovering, as a senior, how living simply and mindfully can support a life of sustainable contentment and longevity. My hope is that the experiences shared here might inspire you to pursue a more meaningful and abundant life.
